US % CAPI LEP Map (Description)This US map illustrates all 50 states: Each state is color shaded to indicate the percent of limited English proficient (LEP) persons who speak an Asian Pacific Islander (API) language in the state. We have defined LEP persons as individuals five years and over who speak a language other than English at home and who have indicated that they speak English less than very well (LVW). Percentages: The colors correspond to percentage of CAPI LEP individuals in the state as follows:

The states are color shaded to indicate the total number of limited English proficient (LEP) persons who speak an Asian Pacific Islander (API) language in the state. We have defined LEP persons as individuals five years and older who speak a language other than English at home and who have indicated that they speak English less than very well (LVW). For each state, we have also provided a pie chart that breaks down the top five API languages spoken in the state (according to the total number of each API language spoken) with the remaining languages in a sixth category called “Other CAPIL”.
